An article published by Young Marine MSgt Shawn Riley in the Fall 2008 issue:
ALS: Linked Arms
This summer I had the privilege of attending Advanced Leadership School (ALS). I got to meet many different people and did many different things.
One of the best experiences we had during those two weeks, one where I learned a great lesson, was when we went on a climb. We had to go up a ridge that was very steep and difficult. Before starting our ascent up the hill, the adult staff told us to link arms. The linking of the arms made us a team and was a great motivation for us. You didn't want to stop, because your friends would have to stop too.
The Advanced Leadership School was a once-in-a-lifetime oppurtunity. I have always wanted to do something like that and this summer I got the chance.
