Information for Parents

Have fun while Learning!!

On Sunday, April 27th the Young Marines will be participating in the March of Dimes walk (5K). We will be providing a Color Guard prior to the start and then be a part of the walk. All Young Marines and their families are invited to come and be a part of this event. The event will begin about 12:00 and end about 2 p.m. If you can't stay for the walk you're welcome to stay just for the presentation of the colors.

If your child has misplaced an item such as a cover "hat" or their guidebooks, they will need to purchase another one. For a list of prices ask an adult staff member.

We are now providing hair cuts to all active Young Marines. This service is $3 before or after our regular weekly sessions. Please notify us one week in advance of your desire to have your hair cut.

Please ask your child how they can earn rank. There are things in their guidebooks that they need to study.

If your child has an inhaler or epipen they will need to bring them to each session.

We are collecting aluminum cans for the VFW. The VFW donates money each year to the Columbus Young Marines. For each 30 cans your child brings in they will receive 1 hour of community service towards the fifty hours that they need to earn the community service ribbon. They will need to crush the cans before  bringing them in. Have them remove the pop tabs and bring those in separately.

Make sure  you ask your child each Saturday if any forms were handed out. We have found that some of the children never get them to their parents.

Recruits can have three excused absences during their initial 13 week training and still be able to graduate. If your child is going to  be absent due to another activity, church event or work please send me an email so we will know.

If parents would like to purchase a red Young Marine T-shirt for themselves, please let Scott Riley know. The cost is $9. per shirt.

Remember, you are not responsible for your child's uniform. They need to take care of it themselves.

Please remember that all YM's must be picked up at noon. No YM will be permitted to walk home or leave the building by themselves.

If you need to have patches sewn on the uniform you can have it done at the Eagle Group located at 705 Greenway Drive in Columbus for a small fee. Their phone number is 378-4272.

Young Marines will receive community service hours for all parades they participate in.
